Our CODE delegation of 10 students and faculty is back from Folkemødet 15. It was four days with intense debates, employment of dialogue tools, ongoing re-arrangement of physical podiums, and exhibition of 6 democratic design experiments. With new friends and partners, we are now slightly more experienced in staging political debate from a design perspective. Very stimulating and quite exhaustive.

After our engagement for Øresundskomiteen, we were Saturday invited to discuss the future of libraries with Copenhagen Municipality, based on our collaboration on “Det Skabende Bibliotek”: med udgangspunkt i en række eksperimenter af kandidatstuderende på den nye codesign master uddannelse, diskuterede post.doc Sissel Olander med blandt andet Kultur og fritidsborgmester Carl Christian Ebbesen hvordan folkebiblioteker kan udvikles i krydsfeltet mellem lokalt hverdagsliv og netværksskabende designtiltag.
See some impressions below!
The spatial scenographic elements by codesign students are multifunctional: they can be turned and flipped for use as benches, podiums, tables in different hights, inside and outside the house. Here they are used as speech booths for a panel.
The podiums used outside created an interactive scenography for many visitors. The arrangement was changed from event to event, and created a playful and lively atmosphere.
After the formal presentations by Øresundskomiteen Thursday evening, Joachim introduced Center for Codesign at KADK, and our work on “Democratic Design Experiments”.
A part of the outdoor scenography was an exhibition of this year’s codesign projects.
The students’ book “Democratic Design Experiments” was on display, and here its inspected by curious visitors.
One of the dialogue tools we developed for Øresundskomiteen: an oversize “polaroid” frame on which visitors and presenters can state opinions and concerns and have a photo taken in the small studio. Photos were uploaded to Twitter #hvadnuhvis
During the debates the online Twitter feed was projected in the background encouraging interaction within the ongoing event.
Post doc Sissel Olander diskuterer her fremtidens biblioteker med blandt andet Kultur og Fritidsborgmester i Kbh Carl Christian Ebbesen.
